Out of context forever!

topic posted Tue, September 26, 2006 - 1:47 PM by  Yul
On another tribe, I recently asked if anybody noticed the hypocritical admiration for Martin Luther King Jr. One (stupid) person on that tribe thought I asked why there is hypocritical admiration for Martin Luther King Jr. There's a huge difference between the two questions. And I can't process why this person thinks both questions are synonymous. It's just another reason why I hate living in this stupidity-oriented pseudo-society. People often take me out of context. Probably because they're too stupid to pay attention to what I'm saying! Ho ve!!

The difference is that one question requires a "yes" or "no" answer, while the other requires a specific opinion as an answer.

Question: "Have you noticed there's a hypocritical admiration for MLK?"
      Answer: "Yes" or "no."

i'd have to say i agree. there is a difference between asking 'is there such-&-such' & asking 'why is there such-&-such'.

but aren't you maybe being a bit harsh? i see the word stupid come up quite a bit in your posts, to the point of being repetitive even. i understand the concept of this tribe, but to be honest i can't help but wonder if this whole tribe isn't a little self-defeating, or at least repetitive.
stupid people shouldn't breed. there. the point's made. any more than that, & aren't we preaching to the choir?

& also, isn't it a little fascist of us to say that? where do we draw the line between who's too stupid to breed & who's just a little stupid but still acceptable?

also, i'm curious as to where the discussion of mlk came from. i mean, what led you to draw this conclusion?

My "excuse" is that I've taken the name of this tribe too seriously. What about changing the name so it doesn't sound so insulting? But whatever the case, I'm sure you know that I'm not required to have a bent-out-of-shape attitude to express myself on things.

right right, i didn't mean to be confrontational.
            you don't need an excuse.
so where'd the mlk thing come from?

I'm not sure where the MLK thing came from. My best guess is that it seems to a prominent example of how hypocritical a lot of people can be -- at least according to my estimation.

                Yul,
I'm intrigued by the question and wondered if you'd be willing to expound on it. Do you believe it's "hypocritical" in the sense that once a year we take a day off to (supposedly) honor Dr. King's work yet there is much left to be done in this country towards furthering that work? Or is it a subtler hypocrisy you've noticed?

                Thanks,
                Stark
