I might be wrong about this, but I think opposition to the space program is another indication of the dumbing down of America. After all,, many of those who oppose space exploration know virtually nothing about it. This uninformed opinion of space travel therefore exemplifies the resistance to critical thinking that seems to be prominent among most Americans.

Fri, July 13, 2007 - 5:41 PMThe dumbing down of America is nothing new and entirely obvious though. What can we expect when our government has spent the past 20 years slowly siphoning money away from public schools as a means to lower the quality of the education in order to insure that those who can afford private schools will get the best education and opportunities possible.

Re: Opposition to the space program
Fri, February 1, 2008 - 8:15 AMAnd it never ends too. Consider the helium shortage. The only other place I can think of to get more helium is outer space, and the closest source is the moon. In today's "high" tech world, helium has far more uses than lighter-than-air travel. MRIs, rocket fuel and cold temperature research are among the many things that require helium. If you explained that to the average dumbed-down American, they'll still say we don't need space exploration. Disapproval of NASA does not count as a valid argument to cancel the space program!
