I got a new therapist a couple of months ago, and she initially turned out to be pretty good. Unlike my previous therapist, my current therapist actually let me talk and rarely interrupted me. But yesterday, those good times came to a crashing end. When I asked her how to deal with rejection, she basically said I should just get back up, dust myself off and try again. I don't know about you, but I've heard that expression about a quadrillion times! In other words, I again have to deal with a therapist who is not as smart as I am!
I guess therapists these days don't need to be so educated since most Americans today seem to be less informed than the previous generation. Therefore, I may be required to look for a therapist who IS smarter than I am or just quit therapy entirely. Whatever the case, the dumbing down of America is really, really boring to me.

Re: Therapy sucks again
Sat, October 7, 2006 - 3:11 PMI am not American, so I don't have any insight on why it seems that Therapy is almost compulsory in the US
What I will say is this : Define what it is your are seeking from Therapy. If you are looking for someone else to give you answer, join a religion. If you are looking for insight into yourself, you first need to define what questions you are asking.
From what I understand, a therapist should act as a mirror, not a guide.

Re: Therapy sucks again
Mon, January 15, 2007 - 2:44 PMis it possible you're a little too smart for your own good? why does your therapist need to be intelligent? great intelligence isn't a requisite to understanding people. maybe you need to find a way to relax a bit.
& by the way, trite & cliche as it may be, her response makes sense. everyone gets rejected at some time. & what do they do? exactly what your therapist told you to do. or, they sit in their homes hating the human race. are feelings of superiority really worth that price?
